Anyone have a new Model Mazda 6 yet?

If so, expect a phone call from your dealer shortly - cars are to be grounded before the weekend, but parts won't be available until next week. Mazda are probably looking at some hefty car hire charges over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

More Sharing Services Mazda is recalling its new Mazda6 over fears that a cracked chip may lead to electrical fires.

Just two months after the car was launched the Japanese car firm has announced a safety recall over a DC/DC converter chip that is linked to the radio system.

A spokesman said that some chips were found to be cracked and as a result may overheat and ultimately start a fire. However he said that the potential problem was spotted during internal testing and there have been no incidents involving owners to date.

The recall will involve 52 cars in Ireland, where the Mazda6 was launched in late January. It mainly involves diesel models so the recall affects the firm’s European, Asian and Australian markets. Customers can expect to be contacted this week and all work will be carried out at dealerships free of charge.

Ouchy - some component supplier or module manufacturer is in for an absolute roasting. HMMM, makes me wonder about the new model Mazda 3 I saw turning itself into a bonfire last week...

At least they have the balls to issue the recall rather than just denying that an issue exists like others have done in the past, wouldn't put me off buying one, sat in one a couple of weeks ago while waiting for my car to be serviced, lovely yoke

^^ nothing to do with balls...
No company would take any risks with electrical fires etc..they'd be slaughtered in the press and possibly face manslaughter charges if any deaths occured etc so they do a recall.
BMW who are rightly slated for the N47 fiasco did a recall recently for all E60 5 series over a faulty battery clamp in the boot which could also lead to an electrical fire.

I was speaking generally, of course where there is a danger to the user a product should be recalled but there can be well known non dangerous common across model faults and some manufacturers just bury their head in the sand and deny their existance when all the evidence suggests otherwise, usually for financial reasons, which can be frustrating for the owners

    How did you find it?

Overall it was a nice car, decent spec estate.

Did have a weird hesitation though, so hopefully that will be sorted with a software update.

    Bit over priced imo though.

yeah, sorry, my mistake meant current model as in "running for the last few years". Sounds like that was some other issue rather than this voltage converter.

Used to work in automotive electronics component development, "zero defects" as the target etc. Somebody is in for some SERIOUS meetings with Mazda
