Car Warranty

    HI

Just have a question about the warranty on my Re*ault Flu*nce. I bought new last year and there is a 5 year warranty on it. I have been told that I don't need to go to the Renault Dealer to get it serviced. Is this correct ?? I would not want to go ahead with another garage (cheaper cause dealers are rip off merchants as I learned with SK**A) and than my warranty would be invalid. Would this be the case, I was also thinking of sourcing the air filter, Oil filter and oil myself cause there is always that little bit extra added to parts isn't there ??

    Any help would be great

    Cheers

Id check that. I get the feeling the last 2 years are an extended warranty and you have to use the dealer to get them.

AFAIK Renault are doing the first 3 years and the importer is extending it based on you going to a franchised dealer every 12 months

Every 12 months !!!! Why do they even bother having the cars on-board tell you 24 months or 22,000 kms which ever comes first, until service.

So if by year 4 and I get the car serviced by another garage apart from a franchised dealer it voids the warranty, is this right ?

I'd certainly check that. Unless it's very well stated I can't see how a competent indy can't be given the same level of kudos as a Renault dealer.

    From the Renault website:
Your new Renault is covered by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty package. This requires full servicing history according to Renault approved standards. Please refer to owners handbook or your local dealer for your vehicles specific servicing requirements.

So looks like you should be ok using a good independent.

I don't think supplying the parts yourself is a good idea though. The dealer might not accept your receipt for the parts in the event of a warranty claim. Plus any savings you may assume you are making by supplying the parts yourself may be offset by the garage charging you extra for the labour to compensate for their loss of revenue on the job.

Also, assuming your Fluence is a diesel then make sure the garage uses the correct spec oil for it. The spec you need is RN0720 which is not widely available unlike the more common RN0710 spec which applies to pre 2010 cars and is much easier to find.

If you don't get it serviced by a Renault dealer and there is a warranty issue you could have quite a hard time proving you had all the necessary work carried out, even the smallest area missed in a service could void your warranty. (and would not necessarily be the fault of the other garage you have used)

As you could afford to buy a new car, you should be able to budget the cost of an annual main dealer service if you want to keep your warranty valid, however if you wish to save a few euro and take your chances with the warranty you can go to an independent garage.

The key question is what value do you place on the warranty cover and do you want to give the manufacturer an excuse to say your warranty is no longer valid.

Any main dealers should be able to quote you in advance for a service cost and if there are any extras they should ring you in advance before carrying out the work. Also if you are selling the car after two/three years would it be better to have a main dealer service history ensuring the warranty is valid ?

    http://www.renault.ie/services/the-advantages-of-choosing-renault/renault-warranties/

"Renault manufacturer warranty: Our new vehicles, cars & vans come with warranty protection, providing worry free motoring for 5 years UNLIMITED mileage as standard - one of the best ‘bumper to bumper’ warranty covers on the Irish market.

If you sell your Renault sooner than expected, you can transfer the benefits of Extended Warranty for New Vehicles completely free of charge to the new owner (as long as it’s a private sale). This can add significantly to the resale value of your Renault.

    - 3 year warranty for paint : restoring to the original state the damaged elements of the paint established by the manufacturer, with consideration of the overall state of a car.
    - 5 year AA Roadside Assist
    - 12-year warranty against corrosion : without the limit of mileage, on condition of conducting regular anti-corrosion controls - every two years, with mileage established in the maintenance book and in the warranty card.
    - One year warranty for spare parts and labour : reserved for Renault cars, all the repairs of which have been conducted by Renault, even after the expiry of manufacturer's warranty."

I can't see too many T&C's on the website, they don't even say T&Cs apply.

I'd let the independent garage source genuine Renault parts and make sure you get a detailed invoice for any work carried out and the service book stamped.. Under EU law Renault (right Jackie?), cannot limit your choice of garage to franchised dealers. (Here we go round again. up again and down again ...)

While warranty cover should be fine after using independant garage. I think its worth using dealer.
The extended portion of the warranty can have additional requirements attached plus in the case of goodwill repairs outside of warranty, without main dealer history, you are on your own.
