Driving License renewal - how do you pay?

So, today I went to complete the form to renew my driving, all went well until I got to the handy checklist of what needs to be complete before sending off the form. One of the items to check refers to enclosing payment and to "see note 9", so I checked "note 9" which states the fees applicable but gives no indication of what payment methods are accepted. I rang them to check and was told that the current form the RSA provide for license renewal needs to be corrected (available here as of 26th March) to include payment methods. They told me that the payment methods that should be listed are cheque, postal order, or bank draft, and preferably not cash (but not definitely not cash) . There will not be an option to pay by credit card. Forms and payment need to be returned to your local Motor Tax Office and that as not all local authorities currently accept payment by credit card they cannot include this option!

I now Dublin City Council t whom I pay motor tax will accept credit cards as payment, can anyone tell me of a local authority that doesn't? Am I expecting too much to expect to be able to pay by credit card?

Am I missing something or have I been misinformed by the RSA?

Are you renewing by post? That could be why CC's won't be accepted. My husband renewed his licence in person in Cork and paid by CC. If you renew in person, I would assume CC's would be accepted.

Yes, renewing by post to Dublin City Council. I renew my motor tax by post also and can pay by credit card though. The fact that its posted shouldn't really matter, it would seem that the RSA are ruling out any payment method that isn't offered by all local authorities, so somewhere in 21st century Ireland there must exist a motor tax office that doesn't accept credit cards as payment.
