Do you have one? What's in it? What would you say are essentials?

I want to put one together for minor cuts/grazes/bumps or so that I can treat something while waiting for a vet. I've read a few articles online and had a look at some premade kits but they seem to contain a huge amount of stuff that I don't think I'd need plus they're very expensive.

    Any hints/tips welcome! :)

I wouldn't keep lots of products as they do expire but I always seem to end up with lots of bits and pieces. I suppose the stuff I always make sure I have are:

    Iodine
    Epsom Salts
    Manuka Honey
    Melolin Squares (non stick dressings)
    Gamgee
    Vetwrap
    10ml syringes (for flushing wounds)
    Scissors
    Clean Bucket
    Animalintex
Brown tape and plastic bags (for foot poultice)
    Silver Spray
    Baby wipes

It looks like a lot but it's just handy to have it all to hand when needed.

Savlon, you can't be without the savlon :-)

I don't have an extensive one, just a few bits and bobs and then anything major I buy when I need it!

    Stockholm tar
    Wound powder
(I find these two invaluable for cuts and grazes)
    Iodine spray, handy for poultices/disinfectant
    General antiseptic spray
Frog disinfectant (stops thrush in its tracks)
Sudocrem (for any cuts on the face, I don't like using sprays near eyes or nose)
Sponges (I throw them out after I use them, Bacteria phobe)
I also keep nappies, sugar and iodine solution for poultices.
Also keep vinegar in there for the summer as a fly repellent!

It's brilliant to use on wounds that are infected or likely to become so. It really helped a horse I had years ago that had a very deep and infected cut. It seems to stop infection whilst keeping the wound moist.

I usually spread it on a melolin square and then bandage that to the wound. Also, there seems to be very little proud flesh when the wound does heal.

I also use it on areas that I wouldn't feel happy putting a spray or lotion (as long as the horse is inside or it is Winter as it may attract flies). I did use it on a horse's lip that was injured but he just licked it off! Who knows maybe it also heals from the inside!

    Thanks everyone!

I have some of the items mentioned and I'm going to add a few more. I've heard great things about Manuka honey before so definitely going to get that, Savlon and Epsom salts. I've never heard of Stockholm tar before but it looks like something worth having to hand -- and empty syringes - I forgot all about them!

    Thanks again
