Boge filling and leaking issues

The 'condom' method - I've seen Youtube vids where people are refilling through the threaded end (end that goes on to battery) and I was a bit stunned by this - wouldn't this be detrimental to the life of the battery,
giving a much greater potential for leaks than if they had filled it from the top?

Also by doing this they are filling up the centre 'tube' with liquid,
    which should always be avoided.
The liquid is only going out one way, right? Straight on to your battery.

Which brings me to my next question:
I filled a Boge yesterday (for a friend) through the top, used a needle cap and let it sit upright for 10 mins before checking its progress.
I definitely did not overfill and I carefully avoided the centre tube but the liquid had worked its way out the end and I had to blow through like a mad thing to clear it. After a few minutes use there were a few more drops on the battery.

How damaging is liquid to a battery?
It's difficult to know if there is any unless you keep unscrewing to check. Could it short circuit/blow a battery?

The centre tube seems really short and flimsy and too easily moved by the action of refilling with the needle. I've taken a couple of GreenSmokes apart (just to see) and I wonder is there any way, no matter how intricate to rebuild/improve a cartomizer?

Best method imo is the condom method, but afterwards dry off the carto well with tissue and blow through the top of the carto into tissue to get rid of juice. If Im not using a tank I use the condom method for the first fill and then just drip into the carto with a bottle from then on.
Some people use the condom method every time they fill it but I find that too much hassle.
There is usually a little bit of juice on the 510 connector of the battery when I take off a carto or atomizer but it doesnt seem to cause any issues, just dry it off with tissue.

Ive had some devices leak bad and filled the battery connection, didnt short it at the time just cleaned it out.
But have known people who dont clean the battery connection which did cause it to short. The battery then shuts down.
Thats whay you should frequently clean the battery connection etc as they do get mucky
