trouble again with the mondeo its the 1.8td endura engine.

the last two days the car has being running lumpy when idle and warm. I looked at the engine when this was happening and the engine was rocking intermittingly as if it was starved of fuel perhaps in bursts it only happens when the engine is warmed up.

would this be an egr issue? or something more does anyone know from experience? where is the egr located on these also?

Should i just get a diagnostic check done for a few quid and see what that throws up?

anyone any ideas thanks in advance.

Any smoke when your starting or driving it?

My 2.0l Tdci was idling lumpy. Wasn't too bad, so I didn't do too much about it. Recently, a pipe leading from the EGR broke, so instead of fixing it, I got the EGR blanked off. Since then, she's smooth as a smooth thing on national smooth day!!

is that a big or expensive job to get done? I want to try to this myself and spend as little as possible.

I've seen this before on the Endura turbo diesels : there's a module (solenoid) on the side of the Lucas injection pump which alters the pump timing slightly depending on running needs. This module has a habit of failing or becoming erratic. You get lumpy running either under load, or at tickover, and surging whilst driving. White / grey smoke may also be present.
