Sky Upgrading software about to kill Thompson boxes?

Just reading over on the Digital Spy forums and I see that Sky are close to upgrading the software on the boxes again, this time it looks like it may kill of the Thompson HD boxes capability of receiving HD.

It appears that Sky are offering free HD Upgrade boxes to UK customers of Thompson boxes but as yet nothing for the Irish viewer!

I wonder when they will get around to us poor dears with Thompson boxes in Ireland.
Owners of the Thompson Sky+HD box can receive a free upgrade to a new Sky+HD box under sky's Better Box Scheme so that they can benefit from sky's newest service such as: increased storage space, Sky 3D, On demand & Catchup, Sky Store and Undelete. Sky also state that "you may not be able to view HD channels through your Sky box" if you don't upgrade. And that this offer is for for "selected Thomson Sky+HD customers in receipt of an offer email/letter from Sky". Click Here to visit the upgrade website

    On a side note,

I recently upgraded online to SKY HD, at the time I was offered an upgrade for Free to the new box but I had to pay €60 setup fee. At the time I decided to keep my exisiting box but the day after I changed my mind only to find that because I upgraded to HD the day before I no longer got the HD upgrade discount and I noe had to pay over €200 for the box! Obviously I didnt bother!

BOTH of my boxes are Thomson -- the last ones they produced... They're WITHOUT a component connection

I've never had a problem with either of them except the odd "No Sat signal" some mornings . . .

I want 2 new 2Tb boxes but I'll hold off and see if they offer anything before I pay full price again ( these 2 cost me €598 only 5 years ago )

In the uk they are replacing all Thomson boxes for free, I will not be giving sky money when they are replacing boxes for free elsewhere!
