Do any bicycle shops do credit options?

I have just finished paying for my first bike through the bike to work scheme and I am really into cycling now. I got a Defy 4 and although its fine, I would like to get something a bit better and definitely more lightweight - I am 6 foot and just under 16 stone so the lighter the bike the better.

I am not in the position to shell out a ton of cash but I would be able to pay weekly as I have been doing so for the last year anyhow. Do any shops offer this kind of credit facility?

I see that ribble do it but is that applicable to Ireland?

I emailed Merlin or Hargroves, can't remember which, last year with this question and the answer was an emphatic No.
That said it may have been their policy alone. I'm assuming you'd be essentially taking out a loan for the bike so I expect that's the stumbling block-in case you should default you'd be harder to find than somebody on the "mainland" ;)

However, if you get a positive response from someone I'd be happy to give them custom

Lads, no credit/finance company in the UK is going to lend to a customer in Ireland. The UK bike retailers all use 3rd party finance providers, who process finance applications like a bank, ie do credit checks etc. They will not lend to someone outside the country - you might as well ask a US retailer for finance.

Take the opportunity to visit your local credit union. Open an account and get regular savings in for a couple of months and then apply for your loan.
You will probably get much better value going to your bike shop with cash anyway.

    FINANCE
FINANCE IS ONLY AVALIABLE TO UK CUSTOMERS

FINANCE IS NOT AVALIABLE ON ANY CLEARENCE ITEMS

    (Their spelling, not mine!)
