I just saw the announcement before newsnight on BBC HD tonight. I welcome the move. BBC HD always had the feel of a test channel.

Hmm, BBC HD channel was all HD though, when it changes to BBC Two HD, it'll be part upscaled, part HD, depending on BBC 2 schedule and programmes therein.

and the BBC4 programmes that are HD will not be shown as HD. All in all a bit of a **** up.

BBC HD converting to BBC2 HD next week

I just saw the announcement before newsnight on BBC HD tonight. I welcome the move. BBC HD always had the feel of a test channel.

A pointless exercise in my view. Most programming on BBC 2 that is available in HD was available on BBC HD anyway.

Regional programming is all moving to BBC ONE and eventually BBC 2 will become one national channel, a DQF meeting in 2015 will decide the fate of the national variants and it's quite likely they will be scrapped.

It's a shame all HD content for BBC THREE and FOUR now has nowhere to be shown on television, but from later in the year will be HD on iPlayer when available. It's a short term measure as the BBC's plan is at some point in the future to have BBC THREE HD and BBC FOUR HD at least. CBBC and CBeebies are unknown.

Delivering Quality First did seem to take the view that was the way things are going alright however if that is the case I would take the view that BBC Wales and BBC Northern Ireland's deals to broadcast the RaboDirect Pro12 would become untenable (although Wales could move their coverage to S4C). Losing the ability to screen games on Friday and Saturday evenings (when opting out of BBC One is particularly frowned upon) will hit both regions in terms of scheduling particularly when coupled with Ulster's expressed wishes not to play games on Sundays (although they have been ordered to do so by ERC in the past). The problem of course is that the Celtic Rugby deal comes up for renewal at the end of next season, over a year before the fate of the BBC Two Nations is due to be decided.

I had watched the Final Round of the US Masters on a SD simulcast of BBC TWO HD some time ago.

My opinion is that the picture quality on that channel at the time was poor. If you compared it to the likes of a soccer match on RTE Two HD; the quality there is 10 times better than what is shown the BBC.

The good thing is that everything on the BBC One HD channel is extremely good; the simulcast picture even via SD is far better and more clearer to enjoy the programmes there.
