Areas to live in, Loughboy, Clongowan, Ashfield, Pococke, etc plenty around.
Martial Arts would say Dragons Lair in hebron estate.
Gyms would be The Watershed, and most hotels have gyms like springhill, hotel kilkenny, ormound hotel..

Brother in law lives in Clongowan, nice enough estate, like a lot of modern estates quite a few apartments/houses built up in a small area. Thin enough walls means he's had a couple of minor sound based disagreements with neighbours. I quite like it round there, and personally I wouldn't mind living there, lot of rental properties there. Aldi/Lidl/Parcel Motel all 5 minutes walk.

There was a thread about 10 pages (end of last year) back for someone else new to Kilkenny, http://www.meetup.com/The-Kilkenny-Social-Club/ was suggested as a decent starting point. Might be worth a go?
