Hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows of somewhere/someone to get a valuation done on a rare putter?

The putter is Ping Karsten Slazenger Jack Nicklaus (How many names can you get on one putter :D) and I have been told it is very rare and worth some money.

It is basically identical to this...

    Approximately AU$3,000?!

That one's not even in good condition.

Yeah - they are fairly old in fairness though. The grip on mine (original) is in much better condition but head itself isn't quite as good.

Someone borrowed it a long time ago and after a struggle to get it returned recently, the guy simply said - "You might want to get that insured."

Pretty sweet discovery! Hope you make plenty on it ;)

That is what someone is asking for it - not what it is worth.

Well true - hence I would like to find out it's actual value.

I think the pro in Headfort collects putters so he might have an idea but he's not always the most approachable!

Cheers fullstop, will give it a go. Also contacted the guy selling the same putter in my original link and he seemed interested to see some photographs. Would still like to contact someone who deals with such items and knows what they are talking about.

These putters where available in the Uk , Australia and South Africa in the mid to late 70's from Slazenger sports who where licensed to distribute them by Ping outside of America. There where several different models produced but the rarest and most sought after is the Anser. The early models from the Uk and Australia where stamped with both Slazenger and Jack Nicklaus and the South African models had Slazenger and Gary Player. The later models and less valuable where just stamped Slazenger.
A couple of the ones shown on eBay above only have the Slazenger stamp so in reasonable condition would come in under a couple of hundred pounds. The one shown for $3,000 aus looks to have everything you would expect except the grip may have been replaced as it looks too modern. The original I believe was not black and was squarer in shape. I am aware of a number of Anser Jack Nicklaus models changing hands at over £2000 but where in mint condition with a patina so not polished or dunked in coca cola.
Check out www.pongman.com, he is the recognised expert in rare Pings.

Wow - some great info there Sipper, thanks. I originally thought the grip had been replaced but I saw that one on ebay I linked and it had the exact same grip. It would seem a bit of a coincidence that they were both replaced with the same grip?

I was actually going to try and clean it up somehow but considering what you said above, I think I will wait.

Also, the only difference between mine and the one linked on ebay is that the words "ping" and "anser" are not engraved in the lower rear edge.

Here are some photos of mine....

Don't touch it, leave as is. I couldn't be sure but you may have something there. Two things which I haven't seen before on these is the remains of white paint on the sole stamping and the fact that the words Anser and Ping are missing off the bumpers.what condition is the shaft band in? Can you post a pic of it?

Unfortunately, there is no shaft band like on the ebay one. Here is a photo..

The missing shaft band is a blow alright and will effect the value. The white paint appears to have been applied afterwards by some clown as I can see what looks like paint smudge above the GER in slazenger. So that is the only thing that I would go at myself, nail varnish remover (acetone ) would do it without affecting the surrounding area.
But I would recommend sending these images and more over to pongman. Any valuation would probably be higher in the U S as these putters where never available there originally and only come up for sale rarely. As I said before the ones with just Slazenger stamped on the sole are a lot more common.

Thanks again for the information Sipper. I have no idea how or why there is white paint but I shall try to have it removed. I have already sent some images off to pongman so I will have to wait and see what he says. I will post up whatever he says on here.

Good job. I hope it was your mrs's nail varnish remover and not your own?

Haha - I think I'd consider wearing nail varnish for a year if someone was to give me $3,000 for that putter!
