the NUI Cert in Science

Hi, I'm a mature student and my application for science ed was unsuccessful
I was asked to consider taking the nui cert in science to prepare me for the following year. Any one got any idea what this is or what will my chances of getting in are.

I know a few people who have done this. One complaint they have is that it doesn't really prepare you for chemistry or biology, it seemed to be all maths and physics based. On the plus side, if you have been away from education for a while, it prepares you for maths, which every first year science student must do.

Is it worthwhile? Well, if you have no other options open to you, you should do it. From what i can see, a fair few students who have done that course were offered a place on some course or other. Don't know if this means they were very good or Maynooth were very good to them!

Don't be too disheartened, as the great Johnnie Logan once said "Whats another Year!!"

In addition to the above, if this is a sort of pre-first year thing, many of the mature students I did my degree with had to do one. A sort of foundation year. They all found it very helpful, mostly in getting back into the learning and studying mindset, as well as getting up to speed with some of the skills they'd need, like Maths and essay-writing and so on.
I think you should do it if you can.

You need to get over 60% in all subjects in the cert, with a minimum of 80% attendance.

Excellent coarse well worth it if your maths is not up to scratch it also gives you the basics of computer science experimental physics and maths physics.

its tuff going but worth it.
