So, if a car is travelling at 100 km an hour and a fly is flying around in it, does that mean the fly can fly at 100 km an hour aswell??? Shouldnt it whack off the back window making a lovely gooey mess?

Obviously when people are sitting in the car, the seat stops them from ejecting out the back window, but what about airplanes?? You can walk around in them.

    Im stumped :(

The reason you can walk around inside a plane is because you don't have the outside wind flapping all about your person. A fly will go splat on your window unless it's travelling at the same speed as your car. Stand at the front of a bus, throw a ball straight up and see where it lands.

Also, the inertia from stopping is why we wear seat belts. Seats don't stop you crashing through a window, the belt does. If you stop hard at speed, everything not bolted down keeps moving until it stops naturally.

What about when you step on the brakes why doesn't it splat off the front window.

For the love of god never try jump in an airplane. When you stop touching it it keeps moving at 500mph and you crash into the back of it!

You're moving along with the car/train/plane.

If you could accelerate fast enough then yes, a fly would splat against a back window.

I suspect that because the fly is so light the air in the car, which is also travelling at 100km/h, carries it along.

Should this thread be in the Physics and Chemistry forum? It just seems to be something you might have to use your brain for in fairness

If the op is trolling, we've seriously lost our sense of humour.

If the above video doesn't explain it, then google "Witchcraft".
