    Hi everyone

I'm looking for some advice about illness benefit. I am currently handing in sick certs to social welfare on a monthly basis and a doctors note to my employer once a month also.

The thing is I will not be returning to work in the foreseeable future and I don't want to have the company waiting to fill my position. They have been great to deal with and I don't want to keep them hanging on for me.

I'm just wondering if I can tell my place of work I'm not coming back. Will it affect my illness benefit? Work do not pay it, its all from social welfare. I just think it would be the fair thing to do.

I have rang citizena advice and they were unsure. Hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Illness benefit is only paid for 2yrs, as its based on your prsi record and medical certs from your doctor I can't see how giving up work would effect it.

Wait and see what others say, as IB is generally work related scheme, so be careful.

I'm in a similar situation to yourself, did your giving up work end up causing any hassle with your illness benefit?

    Thanks!
