    Afternoon ladies and gents.

Just wondering if there is such a thing as an app that will let you hold your phone up to hear a birds call and then the app will tell you what bird the call belongs to? Does such an app exist?

    Many Thanks.

not that i've seen from trying to find bird call apps on an android phone. there are a fair few which have prerecorded bird calls; but identifying a call would take some serious coding effort, probably not worth the few bob you'd make from selling the app.

Thanks for the reply. The app that lets you do the same thing with songs is what got me onto the idea, and to be fair it would be an awesome app to have for us bird watching enthusiasts but it would be more of a niche market than the music app mentioned above I suppose. Who knows, maybe it will come along someday. The amount of times ive walked through woods or down by the beach and been able to hear bird calls but not see the birds and wondered what bird it was. I'm half decent at identifying birds when I see them, but im brutal at identifying them from sound alone. That said, i've no trouble identifying the Curlew across the road that does be mouthing off during the night :D

Its a nice idea alright. The apps the recognise music only work for recorded music and not live music. They just compare tracks to a big database of recordings.
Ive a feeling that approach wouldnt work for bird calls because they are more like live music.
But it could be possible because bird calls are alot simpler than most musical songs.
