Has BBC Radio 4 LW signal been reduced?

I used to be able to get satisfactory BBC Radio 4 LW signal on all my portable radios as well as my car radio.

In the last year, or so, it has become un-listenable (if there's such a word :p) to.

Of course I can get all BBC radio channels online.

But, I'm a cricket nut and LW is where it's at in the dead of night and I'm listening in bed.

Anyone agree that it's not as strong as it used to be?

Can anyone confirm that this is actually the case?

    Thanks.

    D.

The LW feed (ie cricket one) is also carried online. So with either a net radio or just a phone with Tunein you can listen to it in excellent quality at night.

The Radio Four longwave signal is a final link in Britain's nuclear detererrent, so I'd say it's just increased interference.

Hi. am in Cork city and noticed around Christmas 2011 that Radio 4 on LW was almost unlistenable due to increased interference, and has been ever since.:(

I've not heard it for about a week but the last time I checked it was nearly unlistenable.

Radio 4 LW; Sometimes the reception is fine, sometimes its awful. At the time of posting, its the former.

Unfortunately not. During the cricket (like right now!) Radio 4 LW online gives, "Due to rights restrictions...." etc.

Either I stay up and watch tv, or...

Mystery why LW is so bad now. Maybe they're trying to wean people off it and onto online Radio 4

    Thanks anyway.

In the settings on Tunein you can select or deselect the sports that you want to have restrictions on or not, just deselect cricket and Bobs your uncle.

    Ps.

If there was the iPhone equivalent of HotSpot Shield, then presumably I could hide my (outside UK) location and listen to the online Radio 4 LW feed.

    Does such an app exist?

    Thanks.

I have noticed increased interferance on AM in general over the last while.

afaik BBC R4 LW is on full power

Yeah, even with a full signal reading here, it's noisey. It's even worse in the car.

Full signal? How does you measure signal?

Well the proper way is to use a field intensity meter. However i don't have one that covers the LW band so i have to go by the meter on my Sony tuner. While it reads the same signal strength as RTE, it's obviously much weaker but should be able to overcome most noise levels.

I listen to BBC Radio 4 LW courtesy of my (FTA) Satellite dish.

As a Free to Air customer, I have a choice of BBC Radio 4 FM, or BBC4 LongWave, 90% of the time the broadcasts
are identical, but then once in a blue moon I am thankful for one or t'other, re a variation of programme :))

    Technical:
Audio outputs from my FTA box lead to my portable Stereo, which relays the sound using the AUX input. No need for the TV to be turned on.

Here's technical question, I have a sat dish with a quad LNB and an old SKY box which could be used as a receiver but can that be hooked up to anything as a distributor or as the feed to a wireless FM distributor of some sort?

    If the box has RCA phono audio outputs then you could connect it to an iTrip style FM transmitter. If the transmitter has a 3.5mm plug on it, you may need an adaptor lead similar to this;
