Saab 9-3 "Key Not Accepted, contact service"

Hoping someone will give me a bit of advice here.

I have a 05 Saab 9-3. It has a fob type key. This morning when I went to start the car, the key wouldn't turn and I got the error message "Key not accepted, contact service".

Now what I can see online suggests that the battery may be on its way out. I rang the saab service department and they were entirely uninterested in helping me over the phone. They just said "you'll need to get the car towed into us so we can have a look". I have no spare key.

So any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Start by changing the battery. Its only €1.75.....

Not having a spare key is A Very Bad Idea....

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
