    Hi

I'm hoping to buy the 5diii in the next week or so. I was planning to go to Conn's to buy it and hopefully the 24-70mm with it as I've bought stuff there before and found them great.

I just had a little browse online, and can get both camera and lens on SimplyElectronics for around 4100, the same two things in Conn's comes in at over 4700.

Would I be better off sticking to Conn's where I know they have good customer service, in case anything ever happens with the camera, or should I save myself 600 euro on an online store?

Any advice appreciated. I know up front it's a no brainer to save the money but I just wonder am I doing myself any favours in the long run.

if you get a warranty with the online shop, then do that.

i paid over the odds for a lens before in a shop, and it didn't make me feel any better that i was supporting a local shop over an online retailer where i could get it much cheaper. now, personally, i'd sooner save a few quid, as i don't have much to begin with.

at the end of the day, it all depends on your own morals vs money.

    Thanks for your reply Dirtyghettokid!

Yeah it's a massive price difference. Will look into the warranty side of things.

is simplyelectronics the place which a lot of people warn about here?
plus, will you have to run the gauntlet of mr. customs?

Yeah it gets good and bad reviews, mainly from what I can see the bad is delays in getting the stuff.

I think what I might do is buy the camera from the shop and maybe get the lens online, not necessarily from simply electronics, I saw a recommendation thread in here for good online places.

Do you still get charged customs if they're coming from the UK do you know?

No customs charges if shipped from the UK (or any other European country)

+1 on Ian Kerr - site here, note prices in UK£.

customs applies to any deliveries coming in from outside europe.

Simplyelectronics are annoying slow, but it arrives, eventually. You get their guarantee not Canon's. No customs duty they ship from UK. I would not buy from them again,.

Really ??? ... I find PC world much higher than any actual camera shops - comparing price with price the dedicated camera shops also have dedicated staff with actual knowledge of the products as well as photography !!

OP ...if it was me I'd look towards shops up north or in the EU - if you are VAT registered you can claim the VAT back or get it knocked off at source.

5D mkIII is approx £1800-2000ish (ex VAT) so that could save you even more money.

If your buying a 5Diii i'm going to make the assumption you yourself have a bit of knowledge on it and photography, we all love a lil chat when were happy buying new toys but saving a few €€€ can make you even happier

    Quick off topic question for those of you who deal with flashcamera more regularly than I;
I was in contact regarding an order with but ran into trouble as the paypal address is unconfirmed.
I was under the impression that paypal wont confirm addresses outside the U.S. am I missing something obvious or should I be checking out bank transfers as payment?

I think I just rang up and quoted the credit card details over the phone. Saves on PayPal fees too. The exchange rate charged by Visa is generally quite good, probably better than the banks charge for a one off transaction.
