Battery Dashboard Light Query

    Quick query for anyone that can help. Usually when i start my car all the dashboard lights come on for a few seconds but then go out. Now when i turn the key in the ignition the battery light comes on and stays on, but then when i start the car it goes off, car starts every time. Anyone any ideas? Does this mean the battery is going and i need a new one?

    That's normal. The battery light always stays on till you start the engine.

    It would normally go out after a few seconds but i'm having problems with the immobiliser so i have to turn the key in the ignition for about 20 secs before i start the car and the battery light is staying on until i start the car but usually it would go out with the other lights after a couple of seconds.

    Do you have problems starting the car? Is battery weak?
    In cold weather old batteries can cause all sorts of weird issues.
    Can you try swapping it with someone who has a fresh battery?

    What car is it? Mine stays on till I start the engine. My cars a Subaru, my wife's Toyota does the same as do Hondas and mazdas and Audis.

    It's a Renault Clio '01. The car starts every time, i've just noticed that the battery light stays on until the car actually starts. Up to now it's gone off with all the other dashboard lights after a few seconds.
