Trying to remember the laps down in Ballyhoura and was thinking of taking a cross bike down..

is it too technical in places?

anyone take a cross bike down?

    thanks

Haven't done it myself but did with with a friend of mine who was on a cross bike. We did the ~32km route and he found it okay. Hands/wrists sore from being on the brakes/hoods but a bit of extra padding fixes that. Wouldn't fancy it myself though.

It's possible but wouldn't be enjoyable - Much like crawling naked on tarmac, why would you bother? Walking is much easier on tarmac and MTB is much easier in Ballyhoura.

Your wrists and shoulders would be suffering. Braking was be more difficult than usual with the lack of suspension.

And the slippy wooden sections would be awful.

While not ideal, I don't think it would be a wasted trip. You could certainly have some fun down there on a cross bike.

I see more now.. maybe more suited to the fireroad on the longer loops.. not so much the more technical parts.. and those f&*^ing wooden boards... bad enough on an MTB...

just built up a new cross bike.. dying to get out on it...

might just flip a coin and see what comes of it...

    thanks for replies
