Parking incorrectly in public - €20 fine

I'm simply fed up of it at this stage. Some people simply cannot park. Another fool this morning parked with about a third of his/her car in another slot for no reason, meaning I couldn't take the parking place beside that car.

As this was in a public disk area, it's high time that parking wardens are given the power to throw out fines for misparked cars. I suggest start at €20 per ingringement. Will get these idiots parking straight in little time.

More powers for traffic wardens, yay!

You know what. Should be a €40 fine. The person this morning is clearly using 2 parking spaces without having up, two parking disks.

That's failure to have a parking disk and hence €40 fine.

The thing is, you don't know if that's the space that was there when they parked, and the real culprit has long gone.

but if the person parking behind someone who parked badly knows they will be fined if they continue the situation they wont park there perpetuating the situation.

so the responsibility is on the driver to park within the space - failure to do so should result in a fine or the vehicle being lifted - Personally I think there should be a lot more vans lifting badly parked and illegally parked cars instead of clamping....clamping keeps the vehicle in the space while if its lifted the space is available.

I see the same every day OP

I see loads of cars parked correctly every day. I don't think this is much of a problem.

To be honest, as much as I hate it, sometimes I just can't begrudge a person taking up 2 spaces. I am sick to **** of coming back to find that the person who parked beside has clearly just walloped their door off the side of mine. One time I was sitting in the car when it happened, woman getting out looked at me and started walking off. I jumped out of the car to ask her to pay a bit more respect and all she could muster without even looking at me was "yeah, sorry about that".
You should have claimed for the cost of repairing the mark. People only learn when it costs them, a point which is equally true for bad parking.

I have no issues with doing this on the far side of a half empty Tescos car park, but I wouldnt park across two spaces where there are only a very limited number of spaces available.

If you see someone damage your car then why would you not persue them to have the damage repaired? Take it to their insurer is necessary. I dont see why anyone would be let off the hook when they caused damage that will cost hundreds to repair.

thats the attitude that causes this situation , people park on an empty street but park across two spaces .... then as loads more cars come all the other spaces get taken up and there's half a space in front of the originally parked vehicle and behind it ...so there's a space blocked from being used !!

same logic applies if its a car-park in tesco and on street parking - just because its empty at the time you park doesn't mean its always like that or that it'll remain that way until after you leave.

please have respect for other road users !! park properly !!

I would tend to agree with this only for the fact that most people that park over two spaces do so out of ignorance, and not a strategic manoeuvre to preserve their vehicle from getting chunks taken out of it.

I have a pain in my #%^* with the amount of little knocks on the car from muppets in carparks who don't give a toss about bumping doors. I always park at the far end of the carpark but for some reason the car is like a magnet/beacon for muppets who park right beside me, even though there are acres of spots around me

I shouldn't have to be thinking, when I've finished my shopping on the way back to the car....."ok, hopefully there are no dings when I get back today..."

Hence the reason why I said I wouldnt park across two spaces where there are only limited spaces available! (I mean in total, not just free at the time Im parking there).

Most car parks in big shopping centers will never fill to capacity; even on a busy Saturday. There is usually a space over the very far corner where nobody wants to park that will be free almost all of the time.

i'm currently taking up two spots right now for precisly this reason.

(our work car park is pretty big though and there is always ample space at the back of the car park where I and a few others take up two spaces)

I'm sick to fuck of people swinging their car doors open with little or no regard for the car beside them.

I agree with the OP, As people who park like this show a huge disrespect to other Road users.

seriously !! ... you really think that ??

like I said in my earlier post - the space might be there when you park initially but doesn't mean it will not fill up at a different time in the day !

actually ... why would you feel the need to park over two spaces if you had all the room in the darkest corner of a car park .... would you not park properly within the lines ?? (it doesn't take any extra time to park properly)

I know that. I can go down to my local Tescos at any time of the day or night, even at the height of its busy time on a Saturday afternoon, and there will be a section of the car park that is almost completely empty. I wouldnt do it if I wasnt completely sure that I wouldnt be inconviencing somebody else.

Even if you park in the furthest, emptiest part of the car park, there will invariably always be some plank who will park in the space beside you, even if you are the only two cars in a 100 square space area. I have no idea why this happens, but its for that reason that even if I was parking in area where there should be plenty of free space, I would still stick it across two spaces just to be sure.

The real issue IMO is that car parking spaces are simply too small. Another few 100mm's in width makes all the difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

Guaranteed they have the same "**** them, who are they to tell me where I can and can't park" attitude that a lot of people seem to have towards parent and child spaces...

    THE POTATO CAR PARKING EFFORT

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,207 ✭✭✭EazyD

Well as someone who had plenty of "moron marks" inflicted on their car, I can fully understand why anyone with an ounce of care for their motor would take the two spaces, last month I had my car all of 48hours, parked up in supermarket car park, in secluded spot, getting my bags ready to go in when I see a crapped up hatchback reversing, closer and closer towards my drivers side front bumper, I beep for minimum of 3-5 secs, but still a wallop....response? "I didn't see you as your car is very low to the ground", fook me:-/

Its very rare to come across a car park that has been designed by someone who has actually taken into account who much room is required for the average person to open their door and get out of the car is relative comfort. Sheer greed; just cram in as many spaces as possible.

this is my person favourite. seeing as this is the subject of paying for the amount of spaces you consume when you badly park.

this is a very busy carpark on Waterford city quays, its an all day flat rate of €5 per car. really feel this guy should have had to pay €20 just for the sheer ignorance of it. if he had have tried, 2-3 minutes and he could have fitted that tidily into 2 spaces.

he should have been charged double on leaving - simple because of that parking (they could have sold the spaces multiple times during the time he was there)
