Visa Query - Flying into Canada, Out of US?

    Hi Folks,

I'm looking for information regarding flying into Canada then overland to the US, flying home from the US. It will be a grand total of about 10 days as a leisure trip.

What are my (if any) visa requirements? I'm an Irish citizen and had an American J1 last year. I'm worried given the quantity of Irish going to Canada I'll be pulled aside and quizzed as to why my return flight (Which will be booked) is in the US.

    Pulled aside where? Entering Canada?

If you have proof of return travel/onward plans, I can't imagine them having too many issues.

You still need the ESTA for entry to the states.

On that note, can I retrieve a previous application? I'd already be on record for the J1 last year.

I'd say contact the embassy or check their website.
The ESTA lasts for a year, but if it is getting close to being expired that I suggest you re-apply.

The ESTA lasts for two years.

    Of course you're right - 2 years.

Why would someone on a J1 have an ESTA?

Lads you only need an ESTA if you are flying into the states. If you are going by land then it is not required.

The route hasn't been decided yet, so I could be flying. Probably no harm to fill one out. Are they date specific?

ESTA's? No, but they recommend you update it with your flight details when you have them.
