    Hi
my girlfriend has just bought a new Laptop which had a free months trial with Norton.
The trial is up now and she'd like to get a Security package.
I use MS Security Essentials on my Laptop and find it good.

In order to get MS Security Essentials for my girlfriends laptop can I simply uninstall Norton and download MS Essentials.
Her laptop has the new style settings and seems to operate with "Bing"
    Any advice appreciated
    Thank you
    John

Use the removal tool to wipe Norton then just download and install MS Essentials.

Or Avast. Avast been rated higher for a good few months now.

+1 for Microsoft Security Essentials .. Low maintenance and non intrusive to the end user.

I tried downloading MS Essentials but it wont accept is as the Laptop already has "Defender" installeed on it, is that enough - what do you think ?

I think they use the same definitions but Go in to defender and turn it off then Install.

Windows 8? Windows Defender is the Win8 version afaik.
Essentials only runs on older (Pre 8) MS operating systems from what I can see.

If it is MS Windows Defender, make sure it's turned on. Most manufacturers put in trial AV and switch off defender. It's a revenue stream for them.
Remove the trial, switch defender back on (or replace the trial with AVAST/AVG/Whatever you like) and you're good to go.

I have "Defender " switched on now and doing a complete scan, looks more or less the same as MS Essentials.

    Thank you
