Hi guys, I'm considering heading to Spain for a few days in September, and I'm just looking for an opinion on cities to stay in. Are there any that should be avoided? And have you found there to be some better than others? Any feedback would be appreciated :)

I've been to Madrid and Barcelona, both great cities for a weekend. Never heard anyone saying to avoid a particular city. Friends have spent time in both Bilbao and San Sebastian and loved both too.

Might help people if you stated what you like doing in cities, if you're into food for example both Bilbao and San Sebastian are great for tapas trails. Madrid is a big city with very distinct areas, so there's somewhere for everyone, hipster areas, very fancy areas etc

Turns out I don't need this thread after all, we decided on Madrid :P

But since you've been, any particular recommendations for thins we should do while we're there?

How long are you staying there for? As a local, I wouldn't miss out on seeing Retiro Park, the Royal Palace, Debod Temple and its lovely views over the city, and the Sol area just in general. If you're into football you can always do the Bernabeu tour or you could also go to one of the two theme parks just for a bit of craic.

There is a really good Irish Pub in calle Alcala, just in front of Retiro Park - Irish staff, proper Irish breakfasts, good pints, live music at the weekends... completely different to any other Irish Pub in town, just so you know cause I know you'll end up going to one of them!

Will be happy to answer any questions if you have any!
