False Accusations

Not going into detail on this, but a accusation was made against a friend of mine, it occurred in a friends house with 4 other people in it, everyone knows the accusations are false and have all given statements to verify this, the guards said because of the nature of the accusation it had to go to the DDP, but not to worry about it as it was just procedure.

So is there any way the person who knowingly has made the false accusation can be charged for wasting police time or making a false accusation against a person. We all know nothing will come of this and the accused is innocent, but it is quite irritating that a person could get a away with making a frivolous claim and forcing the accused to wait for months to get everything sorted and his name cleared.

Yes, but it's a matter for the Gardai to determine.

Please do not disclose any more detail/s.

Not going to or mention any names, the guards said that they could not really do much except have a stern talk with the accuser, but another guard, a family friend reckoned more could be done.

I'm just amazed people fell for the we have to send it to the DPP it's procedure. What ever your friend thinks this is serious, the DPP can send this forward for a jury trial. If AGS did not believe it was at least a stateable case they would not have sent it to DPP. Tell your friend to contact a solicitor.

I will, although it has been nearly 4 months since it was sent to the DDP. Out of curiosity if the DDP deems something not to be worthy of pressing charges, how does the communication line work, do they contact the accused or do they contact the guards and then they contact the accused, and on the flip side how would you be informed the DDP are going ahead with charges?
