Repeating externally?

    Hey boardsies :)
I'm in a bit of a pickle so I'm hoping one of you will be able to help me out. First things first, I did my leaving cert last year but took a year out instead of going to college, as I had to get a series of long-awaited operations over the past months and would have missed too much of my course. I want to do medicine and got a decent enough leaving cert (580 points) but through my own stupidity, and a few other factors, I missed the hpat application deadline so it looks like I won't be applying until 2014. I'm not exactly thrilled about being 20 starting college and even less so about being 26 finishing it. The 5-year degree in Trinity is what I'm aiming for (not solely because it's shorter of course) but the problem is that I never did chemistry. As points and subject requirements have to be from the same leaving cert sitting I've decided to repeat all six subjects, and that should give me the chance to get higher points too, as 580 isn't ideal. I've looked at several repeat schools in North Dublin and the surrounding areas, however none seem to offer all the subjects I want to do: chemistry, maths, biology, French, Italian and Spanish. Trying to prevent the awkwardness and expense of going to one school for five subjects and doing one in another, I'm hoping to sit the whole leaving cert externally. I don't know if I should though, as I'm not sure how that would work re experiments, orals etc. Also, and this is probably a stupid question, but would it even be possible to teach myself the entire chemistry course in one year? Sorry for this ridiculously long post, but I'm at the end of my tether and would really appreciate some advice!

I think you would need to do English again also if you want to go to Trinity. A pass in English is one of the matriculation requirements.

I taught myself chemistry this year ( as well as physics, ag science, maths, biology, english ) I'm going to classes for french & irish at ordinary level, just aiming for passes in these as don't want to waste time on them.

It's more than doable, but i'd recommend you take up a third science subject if you want to be sure of getting into the 5 yr course.
