    Hi
Our Dyson vacuum cleaner cuts out after about 10-15 minutes of cleaning. Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
    Thank you

    John

    Hi,

remove the plug and cut the wire back approx 15cms(zero cost to try). Has been the fix on at least 2 occassions for me.

How does that resolve the overheating of the motor?

How does that resolve the overheating of the motor?

The only way to determine if the motor is overheating is to measure the temp and then compare to the temp the cut out switch works at. The op said the motor was getting hot but this may be normal. Many portable electrical equipment experience broken or near broken wiring at the plug end. Recently i experienced a high resistance on the neutral on my dyson. The motor would run for approx 5-10 mins and then cut out. I initially assumed that the motor was overheating and stripped the unit and measured all resistance but could find no issue. Eventually I measured the resistance of the live and neutral. There was a high resistance on the neutral. I removed the plug and cut 15cms off the wire and reinstalled plug. No issue since.

    Hi Dolanbaker
I'll give that a try, it could be a cheap solution worth a try.

    Thank you

    Just fixed mine -

There are two filters - if either one of these are clogged then the vacuum is inefficient and Motor overheats.

a simple way for a diy er to check it is run it with the filters removed,if it doesnt cut out then it is the t.o.c.that has caused it to cut out in the first place because of overheating,( dirty filters blocked hose, whatever) the lead problem is also common but this is always a break within the lead.when i say run without filters i mean on a bench/table for testing, not vac. the floor. (toc-thermal overload cutout)

    Hi all
    Thanks for your help
I cut the plug back, washed out both filters as recommended and it seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks again
