    Hi all!
My boyfriend and myself are trying to plan a two week holiday this summer, mid to late July (ish)! We have been looking at Mexico but were open to other places, not Spain or lanzarote as we've been there! I've been to two travel agents and have been looking online and I think Ive confused myself!! Has anyone been to Mexico and have any advice to offer?
We're in our late 20s and want to go somewhere where we can relax but still have the chance to do and see things! All advice and recommendations greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Plenty of day trips to do from Cancun, there activity parks are great and all inclusive. You could get maybe 3 or 4 full day trips for about $300 each while your there, the 3 main ones are Xplor, Xel Ha and Xcaret, best book from your hotel but all drinks and food are free in the parks. Besides that just chill out at your hotel or head into Cancun at night the clubs are all inclusive as well, just get your ticket and all your drink is covered. Coco Bongos is the big club there, Cancun itself is small, well the tourist bit is, you'll many stick to your hotel and day trips, if your going make sure your hotel is all inclusive.

If you haven't been, Cuba is well worth a visit, it's like stepping into a living history book, you could do a few days around Havanna and then maybe head down to one of the all inclusive resorts for some r&r, it's somewhere you should go before McDonald's and the rest of the American arrive. It's also got lovely beaches and the people are very friendly.

Once your thinking of Mexico anywhere in the carribean is worth a look... Barbados is a bit of a let down and Jamaica has some dangerous spots(both islands are right besides each other). I'd pick Cuba or Mexico over either of them. Here some of the trips you can do from cancun http://en.xcaretexperiencias.com/mobile/ all the parks are well worth doing. Can't comment on xchine as I don't bother going to see it as its a long drive into the middle of nowhere, if its history you want Cuba is the place.

You could always do one this year and the other next year. Hard to start going on a Spanish sun holiday after the Carribean.

Thanks drunkenmonkey that's really helpful! Had been looking at Cuba and Dominican Rep too! Think were leaning more towards Mexico at the moment! Is there a hotel in particular in Cancun where you've stayed or that you would recommend?

Cancun is pretty much based on an all inclusive resort, with nearly all your holiday being centred on your hotel,
Excursions and day trips being organised by your rep or hotel, and sometimes fairly pricey with plenty of travelling.
The resort is quite small, and apart from some great theme restaurants like señor frogs And johnny buffet margaritaville, there's not many other reasons to leave the hotel.
The large clubs do all in packages also, though can be somewhat over bearing and full of out of control USA students;)
We stayed in the riu grande hotel, in a suite which was fine, with most of our meals we ate in the buffet dining hall, and for a change headed up town to the above mentioned,
The bus stops right outside, and will take you either direction to the " strip" or shopping area,
No reason to go any further as the town is not in any way geared up for the tourist and is fairly rough dare I say it.
We took a package out of gatwick, which was a direct flight, and with a flight time of over 10 hours, the upgrade to ride up front is well worth the xtra cost,
The hotel was fine and as you would expect, and a small tip at check in seem to ensure a better choice of room with a view.
This was our second time there, and was completely at odds with the first weather wise, as the first time it was like walking on hot coals, while the second time, after two fairly good days it rained for over 30 hours straight,
Though all in all, I really liked cancun, probably as it is a south hemisphere resort, but still full of the westernised world, mostly Americans on vacation or like ourselves people looking for somewhere different, but not overly so......
