Excellent value at Aldi and Tesco for vegetables. A lot can be done with the items on offer, especially the potatoes which are very expensive nowadays. Plenty of soups and stews to be made during the current cold snap. Looks like Supervalu for the majority of the fruit. Their quality has been excellent lately.

    Enjoy

Potatoes were €100.00 per tonne last year and are €600.00 per tonne this year too:confused:

Called a loss leader - basically to get you in the door knowing that you will buy more than the spuds - huge mark up on groceries.

The avocados from tesco are a steal. It's kinda weird that because theyre loss leading you can buy out of season produce probably cheaper than its shipping

It's also worth mentioning the Tesco 3 for €3 fruit deal:
8-9 smallish apples (choice of red or green, all fresh and delicious!)
Bag of small oranges (look like manderin to me)
    About 7 bananas

I think there could be more fruit included in this offer, but the above is all I was interested in. Good price though, €1 for 9 apples...

They ran out due to the popularity of potatoes with Irish people. There was panic in Aldi HQ!

I was in aldi today and they still had the 29c spuds and the 39c ones. The 39c roosters were at the end of the aisle with the other 39c veg on offer and the 29c spuds, 1kg carrots and broccoli were all on the main aisle :)
