Decking Stain

I did my decking last year with a Ronseal decking stain and even though the decking got very little use since most of the stain seems to have worn off and the wood is almost back to the original colour. The railings and vertical pieces etc are fine and kept the colour but the horizontal bits haven't.

Would it be best to maybe stain it again and then apply a decking sealant or decking oil to prevent the stain wearing off or does the decking stain only last about a year?

Maybe someone can advise a better way to go about this or a better product to use?

It should last well more than 1 year..
Was it a water based or oil based product that you used?

I've rarely been satisfied with the waterbased woodstains or decking oils. The sun burns through them in no time plus the rain soaks through too. I'd suggest finding an oil based woodstain and just paint the horizontal areas with it. And give it 2 coats. It will mean your decking will be a bit slippy when its wet but you prob don't be on the decking very often in the rain.
