Home Carers Tax Credit

I have a query in relation to the home carers tax credit and a married couple. I have found conflicting information so would appreciate if anyone could clarify this for me.

I am married and working. My wife is at home looking after our son. We are jointly assessed. My wife has no other income.I claim her tax credits and increased standard rate band. My tax credits are the following:

    Personal Tax Credit 3300
    PAYE Tax Credit 1650

Am I allowed to claim the home carers tax credit for my son?

Information on the PAYE anytime site leads me to believe that I can but information contained here "Undertsanding Childcare Entitlements" Irish Tax Institute tells me the opposite.
Married couples cannot claim both the home carer’s tax credit AND the
increased standard rate band, which is available if both spouses have
income. Normally, your tax office will grant whichever is more beneficial.

If your wife has income , the info you posted above is spot on.

If your wife has no income , you can claim this tax credit.

So either way you are probably entitled to this , but if your wife has income , it is best to leave things alone until you ask for balancing statement next year .

Because the tax office will reduce your SRCOP and this may effect the rate you pay tax at .

During balancing statement , the tax office will give you whichever is most beneficial .
