Smoke coming from Bosch drill

I recently bought a Bosch 500w hammer drill and connected it up to a drill pump yesterday which turned out to be damaged and wouldn't turn when i ran the drill.

As the drill was unable to move the bit a small puff of smoke and burning smell came out the back end and I immediately stopped using the drill.

I disconnected the drill and gave it a good run and it seems to work fine... Do you think i've done irrepairable damage to the motor or did I catch it in time?

I'd say it was just the brushes sticking to the commutator bar, you might have a little burn mark on it or depending on how long it was stuck it could be pitted and will burn out your brushes a lot quicker. If you are getting a lot of sparks or it sounds like it's missing or down on power you might have to take out the armature and give the commutator bar a rub with some very fine sandpaper also do the brushes and make sure they have a smooth surface.
As it's running fine now I'd say it's ok just keep an eye on it.

sounds like the motor has overheated causing the winding insulation to melt
this may affect the life span of your drill
