hi im new to this but could do with some advice. have a zetor 7245 with loader, thinking of trading up. have looked today at an 08 8441 and an 07 9641, both with rossmore loaders. both have low hours and are very fresh looking. i need something with a bit more weight to handle bales on the loader. delaer is asking round 32k for each of them. getting 7 for my own. is the forterra a better buy or am i better sticking with a proxima?? i want something with little trouble and able to handle bales of considerable weight.7245 was just too light and lacking power

i sat into a proxima one day, it had a zetor loader, nice tractor i thought but one think i didnt like was it had a high bonnet, just from the short time i sat in it i thought the bonnet made it a bad loader tractor as you couldnt really see the ground which is important for picking bales etc

Proxima modern version of the 72 forterra modern version of cyrstal more efficent drive train in proxima spur reduction reason been so it would match the forterra no prob all day at slurry thats why forterra are only sold above 100 hp today .As of loader tractors two types of loaders came long and short type the reason been the long type caused the loader to be very unstable as the loader is mounted too near the front axle the pivot point of tractor about 16 inchs from cabl pillar due to ehaust design also with loader fitted turning circle is reduce big even with 24 wheel fitted checking engine oil is a little more tricker and loader has to be off to remove engine air filter make sure oil changes are done on time as rocket cover gasket will fail not enough bolts there. keep an eye on coolant bootle as these engines are fitted with water cooled interre coolers .Proxima is fitted with all round wet breaks where as the forterra comes with a dry disk prop break it was included only after it was realized the rear brreaks could not cope with result that there can be good amont of judder under medium to heavy breaking or down hill Rear lift better on forterra all electronic and troble free makes cab control a lot nicer Should you change from bales to pit silage clutchs have a pretty short life as first gear in hgh box is to high even though it says it is fitted with a 24 x18 in reality it,s a12 x 9 the proxima first gear is lower and so easier on clutch or for taking off with heavy loads up behind Before buying hire them from the garage for a week personaly found that the 72 and 77 great machines and match the forterra in every way except for cab comfort and each burning a tank of diesel a day would i buy a forterra with a loader the answer is find the previous owner and ask why did he/her trade it in

I don't know but a neighbour of mine said that they are like a disposal razor- when you are finished with, just throw it away!

Mines 34 years old and still not thrown away, he must be light on razors!

You never see them on a tillage farm. More of a livestock farm tractor. Topping, scraping a yard, lifting cows that are down, that type of thing. A big No, No for the ploughed sod.

My yoke spent 25 years with an agri contractor, ploughing and agitating, driving the precision chop during the summer and on the mower when they went self propelled and pulling the track machine and dump trailer. Some machine to put up with abuse imo
Now to be fair it wouldn't be deluxe comfort but it never fails to start and get the job done

is there a difference between a zetor and crystal and ursus?

some of those small zetors with the pickup hitch dangling underneath are very poor but adequate for some farms. mind you, i was reared on a leyland 272 and a complete ball of dirt. went to ford and john deere and wont go back to anything else.

food for thought there lads. Main concern with parting with cash is that you end up with expensive repair bills , moreso on modern tractors whereas older ones were always cheap to fix. forterra looks beefier and more able to handle heavy bales on loader. proxima will prob be just like my 72, hopping around with a bale up front. been checking the net. nh ts/tsa/tla, case mxu/jxu and some john deeres 6320, etc even look similarly priced for 2004-2007 esp up north. only risk there imo is higher repair costs with these tractors and no dealer back up if far away. zetor delaer is 5 mins away but known to be pricey for second hands. tractor wudnt have a hard life but expected to last, had the 72 since dec 1996- owes me nothing. only thing electric on forterra was the lifts. proxima all manual

Should the electronic lift fail it,s 1200 euros a starter for these tractors is 350 euros complete clutch is about 500 euros Master and slave cylinder can go from time to time but not to pricy all in all maincomponents are reliable

Just curious I had a 5340 with front loader, slow to move bales but got the job done, brakes were a disaster and gear selection very basic. Moved onto a 2000 Landini 85 Blizzard, good little tractor, only complaint soft clutch. Thinking of buying a 2009 proxemia with zetor loader, was wondering have the brake problems been fixed and is there anything else a man should watch out for on the zetor

The brakes on the proxima are wet brakes as far as I know as opossed to dry brakes on the 5340 , like chalk and cheese comparing them.
