Wireless Network Extender

I recently bought a Wi-Fi Range Extender, as I have the wireless router set up in the attic and I wanted e boost the signal on the bottom floor. Bought a TP-Link TL-WA850RE 300 MPS extender. Configured it to the network and it shows it's detected. Problem is, when I turn it on, the Wi-Fi signal on my IPad disappears.
I thought I'd seen it all.
I have. TP-Link router so there should be no problem.
The Extender is definitely picking up the network but then wipes the signal out.

There should be no reason for this thing to knock out my Wi-Fi , when its supposed to be extending the signal ?
