As absolutely stunning as the Maldives looks, what is there to do beyond jump in the water and sit around reading? Is there any historical sites or anything of the sort on any of the islands? Thanks.

An alternative is to spend a week there before flying on to Thailand for two weeks, but I'm finding it difficult to get a multitrip flight search which offers reasonable prices (the usually excellent skyscanner does not have a multi-trip function yet).
