That was quick, less than a year since Valtari. A much more "aggressive" sound as they had mentioned earlier this year.

They played that as the final song in the set (albeit before an encore) when I saw them a few weeks ago. I wasn't overly impressed with the song, the new direction or the fact that they'd finish the main set of their show with a new song like that.

    Shame on you Sigur Ros.

Christ, strong words there. So it's not your cup of tea, you don't like the direction they're taking and you weren't happy with how they chose to end their set. Don't buy the new album, don't go to see them live and you'll feel a lot better about life.

I'm surprised they're releasing another album only a year after Valtari, although I know some parts of Valtari were recorded years ago. I like the idea of the band trying a heavier and more aggressive sound but from listening to 'Brennisteinn' it just doesn't seem to glue together well. That said I'm still looking forward to the new album in the hope that there's better stuff on it.

That last statement was very much said tongue in cheek. I apologise if it did not come across that way.

However, I've been a big fan of Sigur Ros for a long time and I've every right to go see them live and have one or two criticisms come the end of the show.

Picked up the CD yesterday. Definitely a big departure from the ambient sounds of Valtari and a move towards a denser and more song-based style. It's not as good as Ágætis byrjun or ( ) but I already enjoy it more than Valtari and it's certainly not a disappointment.

The standout song from the album has to be 'Rafstraumur', it reminds me of what the band is capable of when they really hit their stride.

I actually wasn't a fan of the last album or two and had always just went back to listening to Takk, Ágætis byrjun or ( ). But there is some really good tracks on this one. I like the darker, heavier sound on this. I think it's a direction they needed to move in. Bodes well for the upcoming gig.

    This is great news.

I feel similarly about the last 2 yet consider AB, () and Takk to be among my favourite albums ever.

Brennisteinn, Isjaki and Stormur are the standout tracks for me. I'm not so sure about the rest of the album yet, but I'm liking their new, darker sound.

I actually think it's their best album since Takk... As was mentioned, their new darker sound is a nice change in direction for them and they've even thrown in elements that I don't think I've heard them do before, such as electronic beats. I might even grab a ticket for the O2 gig.

I like the direction they went with Kveikur. I wasn't really into Valtari felt a bit samey to me.
