Just saying Thanks to all involved in the organisation of the Fenit Coastal Cycle 2013 - My 1st Cycling event of 2013 :)

On arrival I was greeted by a very enthusiastic man who shook my hand and Thanked & Welcomed me to the event - I hope you cycled the route yourself as you'd planned, lovely route!

Their is something about cycling on the rural routes when you meet others out cycling; not only would you be put on the right route but given the milleage to the next village also. A lovely gentleman in his 70's on his high-nellie joined me for a few km's after I asked if I were on the right route - he turned his bicycle around and called me back. I'd cycle with him any day! Not a bother in him :)

Hope I didn't cause too much confusion to other cyclists or locals either. My curiosity got the better of me as I'd never been in Kilmoyley before so I took a detour in around the village - never did learn anything new though, but it's now another village cycled around by me anyways! Others saw me coming back out and a few more ventured in as I looked back.

The wind was a killer today and I started this cycle peddling into the wind and rain but ended up with that wind to my back! I needed this spin today!

Thanks for the words of encouragement also on the route, especially nearing the end with the signs on the polls:
    " Pain is Temporary "
    " Quitting lasts Forever "

Thanks to all involved in the Fenit Coastal Cycle 2013 - Truly hope it was Successful with all funds in aid of St. Brendan's National School, Fenit! :)

Cycling Events for kerry4sam in 2013 was officially kicked off today!

I have to agree with you Kerry4sam. I was there too today. Well organised and marshalled.

It was easier going up Kerry head than coming back down with the wind. It was my first cycling event as I have only started cycling back in Jan. I even spotted a boardies jersey around the school.

Agree 100%, a very well run event with a great selection of cake and sandwiches afterwards :D

Found the course tough enough with a strong headwind most of the way round...

Hopefully this'll become an annual thing...

PS, that was me in the boards kit :)

Yeah great event, that bloody wind was something else though, didnt help that I had ran my water bottles through the dishwasher the night before and they made my water taste awful :( couldnt drink the stuff at all.

Thought I imagined that sign "quiting lasts forever" haha

Anyone else see that oldish man on a heavy hybrid with a wooly jumper/hi vis vest? I was shocked at the speed of him, put me to shame anyway

I was there too. 480 signed on. Great event and very well marshalled. The food was great at the finish too. Thank god we had the wind behind us on the climb going around Kerry Head, but it was unbelievable before we got back into Ballyheigue. We were going flat out and travelling at only 12mph. It was like a hurricane. Now roll on Etape Ras Mumhan in Kenmare next Saturday. A tough 145km around west Cork taking in The Healy Pass and The Caha Pass. :)

    Hi,
Just to let you know there is also a North Kerry Cycle taking place on Saturday June 15th. It begins in Ballyheigue and follows a loop along the Shannon estuary and around Kerryhead. There are options for a 45k or 90k cycle and it should be ideal for anyone training for the upcoming Ring of Kerry.

All proceeds to charity. Donation entry. Full details on www.ballyheigue.ie
