Hi everyone new to the forum have found lots of info on here in the past so decided to sign up. Anyway my 98 lancer won't start the engine cranks but just won't start. At first i thought it was the fuel pump as i had spark. but i've tested the fuel pump and the fuel pump and mfi relays and there all working fine. I've also check that the timeing belt hasn't snapped. I'm really puzzled as this just happened out of no where one day the car was running fine the next it wouldn't start. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

If you have juice and spark, maybe the imobilizer is at fault. Try the spare key.

The cars doesn't have an immobilzer so that couldn't be the problem i have no idea what to check next.

    Probably a duff crank sensor.

would a bad crank sensor not prevent spark?

Crank sensor set timing for spark, if it is faulty, it sets spark in wrong time(it gives an impulse to ecu in what position is crankshaft, from that ecu calculates timing and send impulse to coilpacks), and car wont start. , borrow off somebody, if you know with same crankshaft sensor.

what spark plugs look like ? are they wet in petrol ?

if they are,and you have good spark, crankshaft possition sensor at fault .. . me thinks.
