    Hi there,

I'm planning a weekend away in Donegal for myself and the OH and need a wee bit of advice re the best place to stay and also hiking and biking locations.

For a days hiking I was looking at Slieve League possibly and for a days biking around Lough Eske possibly and am wondering where the best place to stay would be. We'd be looking for a bit of night life in the evenings with a choice of decent restaurants and pubs too.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Despite living in Donegal myself and loving it, I always hijack these type of threads to promote my home town of Derry as a decent venue.

Its buzzing at present with the City of Culture year in swing, and there might be something on of note on the weekend you plan to head away - might be worth checking out?

Also, the 1st weekend in May is the City of Derry Jazz, Blues and Big Band Festival, a great weekend with loads of free entertainment around the city (most of it free) during the day and night. City is usually great that weekend.

There's also the Millennium forum, which might have something on you could go see

Or the Playhouse or Waterside Theatre

Also the usual good supply of pubs, clubs and restaurants, and I think you will find the prices resasonable up here.

I appreciate you might have your heart set on Donegal, but worth thinking about anyway.

Stayed in An Chuirt Hotel in Gweedore with the missus recently. I'd recommend it as a place to stay as it's a nice place with a good gym/leisure centre and the food is very good.

The location is great for outdoor activities.

Errigal, Muckish and the Poisoned Glen are just down the road for hiking. Glenveagh is very close too. For biking Ards Forest Park is quite close.

I think there's offers for the hotel on some of the deal websites too.
