Fiesta overheating

    Hi, I have a '99 Fiesta, 1.25 zetec, 97,500 miles.

I have had issue recently with the car almost overheating, usually on motorway journeys.

When the heat begins to move out of the normal range on the temp dial, changing the cabin heater settings can help bring the temp back to the normal range.

I know a common problem with the car is failure of the heater control valve, but is the failure of this hcv likely to cause the problems above.

As a side note, the car has not actalluy overheated, as the temp guage contains the word "normal" along almost the entire length, with a small block of blue and red at either end. Ordinarily the needle would rest at around the " r" or "m", but at the times stated above will move to the "a" or "l" (bringing it closer to the red)

    All help greatly appreciated

sounds very like it and it's a 5 minute DIY job will cost about €20

If you want to check it out, pull the two pipes off the valve (it's on the bulkhead behind the engine) and join them with a suitable bit of pipe...if problem disappears, it's a faulty valve. (if you don't mind not having a heater, you need do no more!)

Cheers corktina, the hcv had been on my to do list anyway, along with a coolant change, just wasn't sure if it could cause overheating as well
