    Hi guys,

after searching the internet searching for some rugby boots i'd like to buy i've come up empty. If anyone knows anywhere i could search or knows anyone with a pair that would be willing to sell can you please let me know.

Preferably new, if not it wouldn't be the end of the world, but would have to be in good -> perfect condition.

All boots i'm looking for in either a size 10.5 or an 11.

    1 - Adidas RS7 pro I Infrared/Cobalt

    2 - Puma king H8 WC boots

    3 - Adidas RS7 pro II electricity/lime

Numbers 1 and 3 are illegal for the rugby pitch. You'll get away with it most of the time but refs have stopped lads on my team before. That said you could always show the ref legal ones before games and then change. Not that I would condone that of course

The plastic studs in the centre, they can cause you to get stuck and twist a joint. They can also whittle down and become very sharp.

really? how come all the pro's etc are allowed wear them?

I can't comment on pro rules, but I know anything with a plastic stud/blade is frowned upon at amateur level, and is probably worded into some rules somewhere.

its a bit ridiculous making them available to the public then.

Boots are made by Adidas/ Nike huge multinational companies who dont know/care about amateur club rugby rules. Studs have to be a certain diameter at the top and free of sharp edges. The Aluminium studs that you can change are ideal ones, plastic studs get sharp edges. I'm not on my high horse or anything I've worn all kinds playing myself but lads know some boots are illegal and still feel hard done by when refs call them on it

People are making stuff up here. If those boots are in good condition and not worn with sharp edges then they are perfectly legal. Some dopey ref might have his own wrong opinions on this at amateur level.
If they are designed with the pro game in mind then they are most certainly legal unless somebody can point me to an amateur IRB rule book.

Professional players replace their boots every game or so and lots of them will have a contract with a boot supplier for new gear, so they will have different rules than amateur players, same as they have TMO and we don't :)

Those triangular studs aren't actually plastic though. At least the ones on mine aren't. All the studs on my boots are those things, and they feel more rubbery than plastic. Not the kind of rubber that you could bend of course, but I'd imagine it's more likely to blunt itself than sharpen. Anyway, I've had them inspected countless times this season and not a word has been said to me.

I don't think that is the case. Are you saying someone like Mike McCarthy is on his 15th pair of boots this year? The rules are the same for any game and they make provision for the TMO situation.

Intercounty hurlers and footballers replace their boots after every couple of games, and only a few of those have sponsorship deals, I'm sure professional players have people looking after their boots for them, in soccer it used to be the apprentices I think.

I'd say they'd use a pair of boots for every few matches and then for the important games (internationals/HC/League finals) they'd get a special pair, like cian healy for the RWC he got a tricolour and the game and date on the tongue of his flankers

There isn't anything illegal about those boots as shown in the photo. Provided your boots don't have a stud at the front, sharp edges on them or the studs or overly long studs then they should be fine. You may refer to the IRB regulations on player clothing for additional clarification if need be but the same laws apply to players of all levels and all brands of playing wear; there are no reasons to suggest Adidas and Nike don't abide by same.

if they're not allowed a stud at the front how are the new adidas boots allowed?16202.jpg

I have to laugh at forwards boots. No wonder they're so slow!

The front of the boot as in on the toe or the heel is what we are looking at. That stud you are talking about is on the sole of the boot facing downwards and is fine.

As a matter of interest, are they steel capped boots?

Edit; you will be pleased to see this :)

Have had many boots over the years. Best boots I have ever owned, and any of my mates that have them agree.

They don't. Not even close. BOD could probably have a new pair for every game but very few if any with the same sort of endorsement deal.

Some will be on a token enough sponsorship and a half dozen pairs a year if that.

no they're not, they're basically A forwards version of the RS7, designed mostly for back rows so they have the traction but still have a light boot.

Rugby boots must be black. No luminous colours. No yellows , blues or pinks. As Nigel says: "you're not playing soccer!"

I've always been a fan of adidas boots. Haven't played in a few years mind, but they always felt good, never stick or slip. Don't know what they're like now adays.

they've focused more on lightness now more than anything. the kakari's (forwards boots) are really comfy and good fitting. the RS7's are a bit tight and the new predator incurza's don't fit as well as the original predators Dan Carter helped design.

I remember back when I started playing in school, your choice of boots was either football boots or if you were serious about playing you'd have Blackthorn. Adidas and their yellow striped boots were almost a status symbol in the dressing room and a source of awe from your teammates.

Then along came Mizuno and it was never the same again :)

I was very interested by the Tommy Bowe Bodycheck program where they showed that wearing high vis coloured boots can give you an advantage when trying to throw a dummy

Earls was saying the same when interviewed on radio about his pink boots.

I wore adddidas flankers for a few years. Not a patch on the Asics. All the pro forwards are beginning to wear them. most comfortavble, lights boots ever.

its a good theory, they say the bright colours attract the eye and takes away the defenders focus, don't know how much truth there is behind it.
