Totally not fit enough to do this but a large part of me wants to try.

The stooopid part of me is saying the same. No doubt the sensible part would be telling me "told you so" around the 130km mark. Tis a lovely route though.

I'm just thinking the weather won't be as cold as the Lap of Laois and my morale might be able to take a little bit more punishment. I can always bail out at Ardattin and cycle home anyway.

Always handy to have a bail out close to home.;)

There's also the forecast for freshening southerly winds on sat. That'd be nice for a second half tailwind...

Signed up. Now to organise the day off work :D

Way too unfit for something like this but just out of interest how long should this takew a rider? Pro-average.

The time limit is 13 hours 30mins and after that does it really matter?

(If I was doing it, I'd probably aim for 10 hours, maybe)

I'm in! Second audax of the year, I might be developing a taste for them.

Lots of variables obviously, but I tend to average around 5 hours per 100kms including stops. Some will be pushing the time-limit, and others could come in around 7hrs 30. Depends on how often and for how long you stop, and how fast you pedal ! The Ardattin tends to attract a fair few club racers (more than your average Audax) so that pushes the pace up a bit.

It was a great spin, 250km for me including getting there and back.

When I left this morning at 7am my Garmin was reading -2 degrees. There was heavy frost everywhere but the roads were mercifully dry. I got to the clubhouse just before 8am and signed on and we rolled out just after 8am. I was glad of the ride over because we hit Bray Head within the first 3km!

After that a fast group formed that stayed together for most of the rest of the ride. The weather was good with some cloud cover at the start adn bright spring sunshine later. There was little or no wind for the first part which meant that there were clouds of midges between Brittas Bay and Arklow.

The drag out of Arklow split the group but we re-grouped at the control at Woodenbridge. The next drag just before Carnew splintered the group again and four of us rode together to the next control at Ardattin. There's a nasty little 9% hill just up a small road out of Clonegall that was a bit tough. Lunch wasn't great but the food and support on offer at the other controls was excellent.

After lunch three of us rode together for the next 20km, myself, Mike and Blaize from Bray Wheelers. We were beginning to flag over the repetitive drags when the bunch caught us and we remained together at a zippy enough pace until the clubhouse in Bray.

Overall the organisation was fantastic, for €5 I was not expecting the amount of food and support available at all the controls. In fact some of the controls aren't even closed yet!

I left at 8:00am this morning and got back to the start at 4:45pm.

Ardattin Inn on the John Murray Show RTE Radio 1 just now.
Last Wednesday it was rolled. 3/4 guys after the cig. machine etc. Pick axe job. Owner loaded the shotgun and discharged over their heads. They got some cash and messed up the place.
