The roads flooded due to the rain you may have noticed in the last 24 hours.

    ROAD CONDITIONS

    M11/WICKLOW
Gardai in Bray have told us that the M11 Dublin/Wexford Rd is closed again both ways between J5 Bray North and J6 Bray/Fassaroe. Motorists are being diverted via Bray and the Wilford R/A. Northbound motorists should exit at J6 and southbound at J5. Traffic is very slow southbound from the M50 at J16 Cherrywood.
Motorists are also warned that Old Connaught Ave is also closed between the M11 bridge and Ferndale Rd because of flooding.
Twenty Bends Rd in Enniskerry is closed because of flooding. Motorists exiting the N11 for Enniskerry are being diverted onto Kilbride Lane. From there traffic is being diverted onto the Tinnehinch/Enniskerry Rd (by the entrance to Powerscourt House). Motorists are also being warned that there is a collapsed embankment and also a fallen tree on the Kilternan Rd (R117) outside Ennniskerry. Water is also streaming down the hill from Glencree into Enniskerry.
The Woodenbridge/Aughrim Rd (R747) is expected to close shortly because of flooding.

    N11/WEXFORD
Gardai in Enniscorthy expect the river to burst it's banks shortly. Motorists approaching from Dublin are advised to exit the motorway at J23 Gorey/Courtown and travel to Wexford Town via the Gorey/Wexford Rd (R741). A diversions will be in place around Enniscorthy from New Ross.

They've taken the roads in, when it's wet they store them in a warehouse.

If Andrea wants a puppy someone should give her one. In fact, please, mother, may I?

I'd say some of it might be a direct result of frustration being stuck behind a driver browsing boards or something:pac:

Was stuck there for three hours this morning. Was getting so P*$$ed off about people going up the hard shoulder. But then I was practically out of petrol and I was thinking (or hoping to ease the blood pressure) that maybe those ppl were the same and needed to get to the station quickly?

Didnt use the H/S but was very very close to as the car started chugging...

Another quality design and construction then.

Just been told that when they closed the road they didn't close it from an exit before the flood but from the flood. So drivers were passing the last exit and then coming upon the road closure at the flood.

In laws were stuck for an hour and a half before getting to the slip road.

What is it with this country that they can't do this properly. It would have take two cars one to watch the flood progress and radio the other that was waiting before the last exit and then move out quickly and block the road and Marshall the traffic. They knew there was a problem they had only reopened the road an hour before, so it wasn't like this crept up on them.

There's a limit to how much you can affordably engineer away problems like this. How much rain should they plan to channel away? How much rain can the surrounding water drainage system take? There'll always be some weather which happens infrequently enough that it's not worth spending the extra hundreds of thousands it would take to deal with.

Bray is sliding into the sea under the weight of diverted traffic off the N11.

No but you can implement flood defences and sub terranian lakes to deal with the spill off as done on most modern motorways.

Rain happens infrequently enough in Ireland then does it?

If you mean enough rain to flood the N11 then yes.

How often has the M11/N11 been closed because of rain?

Its not like we had once off 100 year event of heavy rain. All our motorways are poorly designed and can't cope with what is said to be freak events that occurs much to regular.
