His death this week has reminded me of when his books were essential reading. In particular The Rats and The Fog gave me goosebumps when I was younger.Anyone else read his stuff?

Shaun Hutson was in a similar vein but with much more graphic violence. There was another British horror writer who was popular during the 70's and 80's but I can't rememebr his name. His books were all set in America and a lot of them were about the Devil trying to take over the world and they always seemed to feature a scene where a woman would be raped by a demon.
Edit:Did a bit of googling and it was James Masterson I was thinking of.His best known book was The Manitu.

I love his books. I was delighted when he'd a new one out lst year - 'Ash'. Shrine was the first one of his I read. Then the Rats trilogy. The Magic Cottage, The Dark, The Fog, Fluke, The Others, Once, Haunted, not sure if I read more. I was very sad to hear of his death.
