    Hi,

I live in Northwood, Santry and in my living room there is a box with 2 sockets similar to this (same brand, not sure if the model is correct):

    a210235_1.jpg

Can anyone tell me what they are? Satellite or cable? They are both female. I'm not sure if I can just plug a normal aerial cable into one of those sockets and into the TV. There don't seem to be any more sockets anywhere in the apartment.

    Thanks

Looks like a uhf/satellite splitter. You should be able to connect the uhf side(the lower frequency) to your saorview box or saorview TV. The other connector is for satellite.

. . . Can anyone tell me what they are? Satellite or cable?

The device in the picture you posted is part of a cable tv system.

The low frequency side would be for a modem afaia. Does the one in your apartment have the same frequencies on the outputs?

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have to check the box again, not sure if it has the same frequencies as the picture. In any case, if it's a cable output, what would I have to do? Get a cable subscription?

    Update:

This is the reply I got from the property manager:

The development doesn't have a communal aerial. From looking at the image it looks like you will need to connect sky or UPC to get a connection

So I guess my only option is to get a cable subscription? I've never had a TV in Ireland before, and suggestions?

Thanks, I'll check that out. I already have Magnet Fibre broadband though, so I have to see if it's worth also getting the TV package with them or not.
