Eircom upstairs socket

Apologies if wrong forum, my phone & router are plugged into eircom point inside the front door.

PC is in upstairs back room and I really need to have it connected by cable rather than using wifi. Front upstairs bedroom also has a phone point (never used before now) and would make cabling a lot easier if I plugged the router in at that one instead.

However, it appears dead, I plugged the phone into it tonight.

Is there some way it can be "switched on" or is the likelihood that it's not wired?

House is c 6 yrs old.

    Thanks.

It probably needs to be connected, is there any cables lying around near the master socket in the hall? Try find where the cable from the socket in the bedroom goes.

To be honest the best place for the modem is at the master socket in the hall where the phone line comes in. There can be issues if the modem is not at the master socket. If its your own house, just run some CAT5 down to the modem point, or use Ethernet over Power adapters.

Thanks for that, I thought I'd have to run a cat5 up the stairs alright, just hoping for some lazy way around it.

I don't know what you mean by "use ethernet over power adapters" , would you mind explaining that please?

open the master socket and see if there are any cables behind it. If so then you need to find which one goes up stairs to the bedroom. When u identify it connect it to the phone cable and bring the master socket upstairs and terminate the phone line up there and plug everything in and all shud be good....This is assuming you can find the cable upstairs...

Depending on the construction of the house it might be very quick to run some CAT5 up behind the wall. Is the room where the PC directly above the hall?

Ethernet over power adapters send the ethernet data over the power wiring in your house:-

Otherwise known as home plugs. You would need a power socket beside the phone socket in the hall, dedicated, not shared via an extension cable, and of course one beside the computer
