Hi folks, Looking for some advice re the above..which are better Velux or Fakro or what other brands are there??

Planning on doing an attic conversion in the coming months. Need three windows....was looking on Velux website and the sizes would be 1 * CO2 and 2*M06.

Also would it be best to use a roofer or a 2nd fix carpenter ? Roughly how much would they charge. Based in Galway

    Cheers in advance

From my experience there isn't much difference quality wise, with velux being more expensive untill you start looking at blinds. Anything you save on the window, you'll likely spend double on the blinds, which don't last forever, so you will regret the decision again and again. Also better choice of colours and patterns in velux blinds.

    Hi,

We went with Keylite in the end on our self build, we have 7 in total, so our decision was price driven, also i loved the pine finish on the internal side. Also like how Keylite windows open on the top.

There is also another brand called Fakro cant comment on them as i cannot remember what they look like now.

And on your last point, our roofer installed all of our roof windows during the roof being installed also.

    Hope this helps.

I put in fakro ... They are equally as good as the velux if not better as the opening/ closing is much easier on the fakro. You will be paying for the name if you choose velux.
Also the fakro blinds are very reasonably priced via a fakro online website, based in mayo , I believe.

I work with a conservatory/sunroom company in Galway. We've put in both Velux and Fakro (into the sunroom roofs). Hawkelady's right. Fakro are as good, if not better. I can recommend someone in the Galway area if you like? Excluding the cost of the windows, it would be about €700 for the fitting.
