I know their has been loads of threads about taxing a van .
But what's the latest on this and as far as I can tell each county can vary .

    I'm in Louth

Buying a van for traveling to and from work

    I've no vat number

I have a car that I'm keeping for weekend use

No problem getting a letter from my boss

And I want to tax it commercial

    Thanks

    Same in Galway,

With a new van though they will give you a form to go to the Garda station with, that you sign there declaring it for goods only. Then go back to motor tax office with it and DOE cert, Log book and drivers licence I think.

    Thanks very much

    I'm buying a secondhand 2003 peaugeot partner
Have to get an insurance quote and run it through its doe test first .
I've heard it can be a minefield to get it taxed

Same in Meath, they're grand for taxing commercially

Best of look with the DOE. I've mine in two weeks. Try and get a recomendation for a DOE centre. Some off them will always try and bring you back for something.

there not that easy in monaghan, i enquired and was given form to get stamped by guards but it states that you will use van for commerical purposes only not social, domestic and travel, they also quizzed why my insurance said for social domestic and travel purposes only, my insurance was worded in a strange way as i got it through a broker and told them i had a commerical vehicle but it wasnt being used for commerical purposes, also they wanted the vehicle weighed at a designated weigh bridge, also would not let it through without a valid vat number, in the end taxed privately:rolleyes:

I may throw this in too. Dessie McCormack, Athboy :)

    Or is that too far?

    That's where you went wrong
also they wanted the vehicle weighed at a designated weigh bridge,

That's for reclassification commercial to private
also would not let it through without a valid vat number,
If your gross/net income/profit or one of those is less than 5000 euro you don't require a VAT number
    in the end taxed privately:rolleyes:

I presume it's for private use?

I work around duleek area & Drogheda
So it would be a bit of a treak unfortunately .
I was thinking of just sending it in after a quick inspection and just fix whatever's wrong after that .
    But thanks anyway

I'd avoid the DOE centre covering that area... They tried to make my dad come in several times, retests, wanted engineers reports... Cut our losses and went to Dessie, van passed 1st time, that was 3 years ago, never looked back :)

im lucky enough thats its only 1.4 so its that much more, €50 wasnt really worth the headache

    Update

Rang the dundalk tax office and got talking to a nice lady who told me that I needed

    a valid doe cert

    Tax book in my name

A form stamped by the gardai stating the van is to be used for commercial purposes only and my pps number ."she's sending me out one"

And a valid commercial insurance certificate

    Quick update

Well I should have gone to that guy Dessie .
I got lazy and went to one just outside dundalk .

    Needless to say it failed

Back axle bearing " fair enough"
Horn.. It worked before the test and after I'm stumped by this one ???

    Only 1 number plate light
    He said it needs 2

Parking light bulb ... Must have blown that day

Inner drive boot ... Had a wee tear on it ...
    No grease leaking though

Tie rod bar ... I bought 2 for it and only replaced 1 the other seemed fine when I cheaked it .

2 rear brake pipes ... Looked fine to me when I cheaked them on the ramp a few days ago .
