Trip to Franconia - any tips on pubs / villages to visit?

I am going to Franconia soon, staying 4 nights in Nurnberg.

    I plan 3 day trips:

    (1) Bamberg
    (2) zoigl
    (3) Forchheim, ......?????

I welcome any tips/advice on which villages / pubs to visit.

For Bamberg, my focus won't be on a pub crawl. I may be able to visit two pubs, to have food + beer.

For zoigl, I will go by the zoigl calendar, and visit that pub.

What I am really looking for is advice on Forchheim, or any other town / village / pub / beer garden on or close to the railway lines out of Nurnberg?

    Thnaks.

PS my main info so far is from Shut Up About Barclay Perkins.

I've been to Bamberg twice, its an absolutely lovely place. Hopefully I'll get back there in the summer!

If your only on a flying visit, I'd recommend definitely getting to Schlenkerla for a marzen and maybe somewhere like Spezial also, its a bit more old school. Outside of pub crawls, the Altes Rathaus is a must (you'll prob pass it if you go to Schlenkerla) and Klein venedig (Little venice) for some nice pics.
Altenburg castle is also nice with some good views of the City but its a bit of a trek.
Bamberg is one of those cities that's just great to walk around, get lost and see what you find!!

I'm afraid I can't give you much advice on any of the other places around Bamberg, but Nurnberg is also a lovely city.

Oh and having a bit of german is also handy around those parts!

Unless you are going to be in Forcheim around the time of Annafest (which is a beer festival in the forest), there is not much to see/do there.

If you are there for Annafest then it is worth the trip. We went to Forcheim for this festival but based ourselves in Bamberg

Bamberg is less than 45 mins by train to Forcheim. If I was you I would spend the extra time in Bamberg and try a few more of the local breweries there.

I think there is a tour you can do in the old town in Bamberg where they bring you around a few of the breweries in a afternoon

Don't forget you can get the Bavarian train ticket for €29 and travel anywhere in the region and think you can get up to 5 people on 1 ticket.
