Grab yourself some tea or coffee, and watch every video this guy has made: http://www.youtube.com/user/ellaskins?feature=watch

Honestly, there really is no better YouTube series. He's a little eccentric, a little nutty but he explains everything. Some videos assume you know the basic's and that can be hard for beginners.

Any questions after though, ask away!

Aslong as you can keep rythem you should be sound. Practice as much as you can at beatmatching on software called Traktor or Virtual DJ. I would suggest buying a USB controller for your laptop/pc and practice on that. I used Vinyl for years then CD's but I find using software and a usb controller far better, you can see what parts of the song are coming up, you can loop away as much as you want and add fx. Plus it is much cheaper than buying blank cd's or vinyl as every bit of music nowadays is all online.

Also depends if you want to do it as a hobby or be in pubs & partys playing.

I can offer you an internship, but the first year would mainly involve you making tea and coffee for me and also running some errands.
